Although 75% of air operators try to save as much fuel as possible, all operators are noticeably different and will produce varying emission results under the same circumstances, averaging over 500kg CO2 per hour, amongst other emission differences. The current lay standard for measuring emissions as an average and per 'seat' is deeply flawed and subjective. Many critical factors are not considered in this system and as the formula is inverse, it can be misleading and highly inaccurate.
Currently the best single net emission reduction method, Sustainable Aviation Fuel is limited to 50% commercial use. It doesn’t actually reduce aircraft CO2 emissions and doesn’t definitively reduce other realtime emissions, plus mass supply has its own set of environmental concerns. Therefore maximum effort needs to be made to reduce actual fuel burn (and other emissions) at core source, and not operate with a 'license to pollute' mindset currently favouring SAF as a sole solution.
